Last week we attended the opening of the LCB Depot’s Design Season 1. This inaugural initiative will run through September and October 2018 and highlights some incredible work.
Contributors include design agencies and freelancers, local makers, illustrators, fashion designers, musicians and architects – plus students and graduates from Leicester College and De Montfort University.
Arch are proud to be part of this platform which showcases Leicester’s talents on a national and international basis, and celebrates our diverse creative community.
The official launch of Design Season 1 features an exhibition, entitled LOOP, based in the main gallery at LCB which shows the strength and depth of creative design work in Leicester.
Arch Creative have created a piece to display which has been a collaborative project with a local illustrator we were randomly selected to work together with.
The project brief was simply the theme “repetition”.
Given our penchant for video and animation, we thought this would be the best way of getting this across. Incorporating the artwork of Leicester artist Amy Lesko and footage from historical newsreels and movies, we created the below installation.
Human beings repeat things all the time. Practice makes us better at the activities we enjoy. When we find things that make our lives better, we repeat them. It’s a fundamental of the human condition, and we wanted our piece to demonstrate this. The video shows life-cycles, historical events and trends – a few ways in which repetition is shown through human behaviour.
It’s designed to play on a loop:
