The Magnificent Eleven is a comedy drama starring Keith Allen, Sean Pertwee, Gary Mavers, Paul Barber, Jenna Harrison and Hollywood actor and star of legendary film, The Magnificent Seven, Robert Vaughn. The film is co-written by the creator of Trainspotting and Filth, Irvine Welsh.

The movie is a modernisation of the classic western in which the Cowboys are a struggling local amateur football team, the Indians run a nearby Tandoori restaurant and the bandits are a group of menacing thugs led by a maniac known simply as ‘American Bob’.

In light of the impending World Cup, our brief was to design a poster which would tap into the football market, so we focussed on images of the main protagonists in the foreground wearing their football strips, and looking on ominously as the bandits approach from the football sunset in typical western style. The addition of the bullet hole detail adds to the subtle western ‘Wanted’ style poster.

Finally, we devised a new tag-line ‘Never underestimate a bunch of Cowboys’, which references the football team’s name and the underdog’s spirit.
