Background

A marriage made in heaven

We had identified a gap in the market for a wedding portal, similar in approach to what Houzz has achieved in the home and interiors sector. Arch Creative got together with two other like-minded businesses to develop a new wedding portal.

Wedding blogs and wedding related online content is hugely popular. We wanted to tap into this, but also provide a platform for monetisation.

Featured project

An engaging experience

The first steps in development involved the creation of a new brand. Our intention was to create a look that was sophisticated, refined, and oozed quality.

Once we had developed the brand we could move on to the process of creating our online platform. This all started with a programme of research. We analysed not only other sites from within the same sector, but we also looked to see what other ideas we could borrow from other markets.

What we learnt:

  • Content is king – good shareable content can make or break a site
  • Social integration – social is of vital importance in this sector
  • Engagement – give users a reason to engage, and the tools to do so

How we implemented our findings

Firstly we employed a team of great content authors. We sought out key figures within the weddings sector and approached them for featured / guest content. Among these are Matthew Oliver who is listed in Style Me Pretty’s prestigious Little Black Book, Joanna Natalija White, a wedding photographer who is a collaborator for Italian Vogue, and dress boutique Helena Fortley which is currently Perfect Wedding Magazine’s ‘second best bridal boutique in the UK’.

Secondly we built our site using our bespoke CMS system which gave us the capability to build in social sharing and user-driven content curation from the start.

Monetisation

Our goal was to create a brand and platform that would attract users organically. We knew that once users started to visit the site in greater numbers then advertisers would follow.

We have integrated a supplier profile section. From within this, advertisers can set-up a paid for profile. The ads are searchable by location or service, giving wedding planners and brides-to-be a one-stop wedding shop.

Brides can get inspiration from our original content and then search a range of matching suppliers.
